Westmorland and Furness Councils Director of Resources (section 151 officer) has announced her decision to resign from post and has share a message with all staff and members of the council today over her decision.
Pam Duke the councils Director of Resources and section 151 officer who has guiding the new council financially since April 2023 at a time when many other councils across the country were forced to effectively declare their councils bankrupt, said to council staff and members “It has been two years since I was appointed - and what a two years. I feel incredibly proud of what we have achieved as a new council in that time. It has been a privilege to help establish and develop a new unitary council with you all.”
“I am particularly proud to have supported W&F to move towards a more sustainable financial footing and am extremely proud of the fantastic work and positive impact the Resources directorate has made.”
“I will really miss Westmorland and Furness, but it is time for the next chapter.”
The council will over the next three months set and agree its budget and council tax amounts for 2025/26 alongside various audits before the departure in March ahead of the councils new financial year in April.
Westmorland and Furness Council CEO Sam Plum said: "I'm sure staff and members will want to join me in thanking Pam for her hard work and dedication in establishing our new council and wish her well in the next chapter.”

Westmorland and Furness Councils cabinet will next Tuesday at a meeting in Barrow Town Hall agree the start of a consultation on the council's budget and council tax that will see a 4.99% increase for all households in Westmorland and Furness alongside increases expected for town and parish council's precepts and police and fire precepts.
