Council to close A6 South at Kemplay to all traffic over three weekends in May and June

A6 South of Kemplay to be closed to all traffic over three weekends in May and June.
A temporary road closure & temporary speed restriction has been put in place to allow Westmorland & Furness Council Highways to carry out highway works, which are expected to commence 13th May 2023.
The works will see the A6 from Kemplay roundabout through Eamont bridge closed to all traffic between 6am Saturday until 10pm on Sunday on three weekends starting on the 13th of May.
The works are anticipated to be carried out over the weekends of 13th/14th May, 20th/21st May and 3rd/4th June 2023 with the road being closed at 06:00 on the Saturday and reopened at 22:00 on the Sunday.
The temporary restrictions put in place will Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along that section of the A6 Eamont Bridge, from its junction with the Kemplay Bank roundabout, extending in a southerly direction for a distance of approx. 1.1km.
A suitable alternative route for motorway traffic will be signed and available via the B5320 Pooley Bridge, A592 Rheged roundabout, M6 Junction 40 and A66.
For non-motorway traffic via the B5320 (Waterfoot) A592, Rheged roundabout and A66.
The restrictions will also prohibit any vehicle from proceeding at speeds in excess of 10 miles per hour along that section of the A6 Eamont Bridge, from a point approx. 160m south of its junction with the A66 Kemplay Bank Roundabout extending in a southerly direction for approx. 700m.
The 10 miles per hour speed restriction will operate where contractor’s operatives and plant are working on site. It will be operated on a convoy system with a lead vehicle controlling traffic speed to protect the workforce and will be in place from the 12th June 2023 to 30th June.
Westmorland and Furness Council have said a way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.
The closure will also be in place over the weekend of 13th and 14th of May at the time of the annual Brougham Hall wartime weekend.
