Council Submits Planning Application Generator Compound for Voreda House

Westmorland and Furness Council has submitted another full planning application to itself as the local planning authority for the erection of Storage building plus a Generator base and associated fencing and landscaping to land at the rear of Voreda House.

The application states that site to be used has historically been neglected and unused and will be used to provide storage facilities and emergency generator housing for the councils £8.5 million new net zero passive house office building that opened in June this year.

The site proposed for the shed and generator compound is a sloping strip of land between Coronation Garden and the Drovers Lane Carpark.

The Storage building will be sited furthest from Voreda House at the rear of the site near a former council office prefab building located at the rear of the town hall and the new generator will be sited adjacent existing ducting containing the supply cable to Voreda House with the proposed new generator intended to supply the necessary power usage of Voreda House as an emergency power supply.

The council's application provides no details on the planned generator size or power generating capacity or the proposed fuel supply and storage. The council has not given details of any noise impact assessments for the generator despite the  council currently facing another retrospective application over the heating and ventilation unit located on the roof of Voreda house, that according to local residents is the source of substantial noise disturbance often overnight when the system is running.

The councils planning consultation for the shed and generator compound is open for comments from the public until the 19th January 2025.
