Council Runs Up £4 Million Credit Card Bill Since April

It has emerged that Westmorland and Furness Council that holds 251 individual corporate credit cards that the council has to date failed to publish any details of its spending on the credit cards since the 1st of April has a substantial credit card spending habit.

In documents seen today (Thursday 15th February) by Penrith.Town showing the spending on Westmorland and Furness Councils 251 corporate credit cards since April the total bill run up on the cards to January has amounted to a staggering £3,800,271.31.

One of the council’s credit cards has run up a bill of £64,307.89 in that period.

Since October when challenges were first made to the council over its credit cards and failure to publish spending reports, documents seen today show a sudden halt to spending on most of the 251 credit cards in November, December and January.

The leaked information comes less than a week before Westmorland and Furness Council is set to approved its budget for 2024/25 with no details of the almost £4million pounds spent on credit cards included in the budget spending reports.
