Council Launch Internal Audit Review of Voreda House Debacle.

Westmorland and Furness Council have launched an internal audit review to establish lessons learnt over the whole process surrounding the councils Voreda House project that has seen its costs escalated beyond £8 million.

Penrith.Town questioned the council on its plans for the internal audit it’s launching for clarification around the audit been an internal conducted delivered audit review, or if Westmorland and Furness Council will be bringing in an external body to conduct the audit review and if the final report will be made available to the public.

A council spokesperson confirmed: “An internal review has started to establish ‘Lessons Learnt’ on the development of the former Eden District Council Voreda House scheme.”

“The review is currently at the scoping stage and is due to conclude in January. This follows an earlier Project Assurance Review undertaken by the new Westmorland and Furness Council to assess the delivery and financial position of a number of projects that it inherited from its predecessor councils in April.”

“The Lessons Learnt review will be undertaken by Westmorland and Furness Council’s Internal Audit Team. The findings will be reported in line with the council’s established governance framework.”

“The council is focussed on progressing and concluding the review while also working hard to complete the re-fit of Voreda House.”

Voreda House has seen costs escalate to £8.3 million with some reports this could further increase before the project is completed.

The project was organically scheduled to be completed by the former Eden Council who started the redevelopment as its intended new headquarters.

Deadline for completion have repeatedly changed with the current completion now said to be early Spring 2024.
