Penrith town councils finance committee will meet on Monday to consider a request made by Westmorland and Furness Council for permission to install bicycle stands on land owned by the town council in front of the band stand.
The town council was gifted the bandstand and area of land in front of it when the town council was created in 2015 by the former Eden District council.
Since taking ownership town council has entered into an agreement to allow the area to be used for outdoor seating space by the Board and Elbow in return for an annual fee as well as the placing of the annual Christmas tree by a Penrith Lions and allowing planters to be placed on the area of land by Penrith Bid.
The plans by Westmorland and Furness Council will require one of more of the planters to be moved to create space for the council to install the row of new cycle stands located in between the remaining planters.
The new cycle stands will be finished in black powder coating to match other town centre street furniture and be fixed into the ground as a permanent fixture.

If the town council finance committee approved the request Westmorland and Furness Council would be responsible for future ownership, maintenance and insurance of the cycle stands once installed.
The corn market scheme to install cycle parking stands is one of four town centre locations the new cycling stands will be installed by the council with work expected to be carried out in spring 2026.
