Change of Plan for Saturday Lunch – Tattie Tim Makes His Return to Town Centre

In late June, an icon of Penrith’s town centre – who has satisfied the lunchtime hunger of thousands over the last two decades and even attracted visitors from around the world – suddenly vanished.

The legend known as “Tattie Tim” AKA Tim Lorton disappeared from his regular spot, leaving many wondering what had happened to their favourite baked potatoes… and to Tim himself.

In late June, Tim was rushed into hospital with a suspected heart attack. Doctors gave time a diagnosis that he was suffering with heart failure.

“When I found out after being rushed into A&E, they just said, ‘Oh, by the way, you’ve got heart failure,’” Tim recalled. “My first reaction was, ‘Uh… what?’”

Like many of us, he admitted the first thing he did was Google it.

Tim spent time in Carlisle Hospital, and, as he puts it: “To cut a long story short, my heart was stopped and restarted.”

He added: “I’m deeply grateful to the amazing cardio team at Carlisle Hospital. I extend a massive thank you to everyone who provided exceptional care during my stay – I truly appreciate the dedication and support.”

And now, the news Penrith has been waiting for: after recuperating at home (and counting his spuds in preparation), Tattie Tim is making his big return to the town centre.

Armed with his famous baked potatoes and a range of daily specials, Tim will once again be filling the lunchtime appetites of locals and visitors alike.

He will be back in his usual spot, open for business today (Saturday 9th August) – though he’s keeping his daily specials a closely guarded secret. But we can reveal its "Tattie Tim's Texan Treat”.

We are assured that the Red Arrows flyby on Saturday afternoon is purely coincidental!
