Celebration as The Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria presents British Empire Medal at Penrith event

Over 100 guests gathered to celebrate as Mr Tommy Coulthard B.E.M received his British Empire Medal from The Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria, Mr Alex Scott, representing His Majesty The King in Penrith last week. 

Mr. Coulthard received the award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to heritage and the community in the Lake District. With the announcement made in the Kings Birthday honours list in June.

A spokes person for Hospice at Home said “Mr Coulthard continues to be an avid supporter of Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland, and his incredible efforts in support of the charity have now been recognised by the Crown.”

President of the Charity Lady Elizabeth Leeming said ‘It was an honour to be present, along with Head of Fundraising and Marketing, Julie Blundell, when avid Supporter  Mr Tommy Coulthard B.E.M. received his British Empire Medal from The Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria, Mr Alex Scott, representing His Majesty The King.’

The recently refurbished and reopened Gavel Room at the Hired Lad, Penrith was packed with Tommy's friends and admirers, all there to celebrate his remarkable life and to demonstrate their affection and respect for him.

During the event some moving words were spoken about the work done by Tommy in supporting the charity and poems read, and there was a resounding standing ovation for Tommy.

Hospice at Home said following the event “Thank you to all the family for an afternoon never to be forgotten!  Thanks too for the delicious tea, provided by Katy Edgar.  That Tommy and his family allowed a collection for Hospice at Home on this, Tommy's special day, was very much appreciated and typical of their generosity.”
