Castletown Community Group restores community noticeboard

After what local residents say is “years of neglect”, a new community notice board is now in place on Castletown recreation ground.

The new notice board is an initiative of recently formed Castletown Community Action Group established by members of the local community and a former Penrith Town Councillor who resigned last month from the town council and is supporting calls for the establishment of a Castletown parish council.

Two members of the Castletown Community Action Group carried out the repairs with funding from Nilfisk, base on the nearby Gilwilly Industrial Estate.

“The board was in disrepair and unable to be used,” said a spokesperson for the group. "Now, we’re happy its back-up, 100% repaired and full of local information.”

A spokes person for Westmorland and Furness Council said “The noticeboard in Castletown Recreation Ground was removed from the site, as due to damage it was no longer fit for purpose and unable to be used. While the board is not a Westmorland and Furness Council asset, council officers worked with some local residents who had come forward and were keen to have the board repaired. The board has now been installed back into the playground so it can be used as a source of information by the local community.”
