Business Breakfast questions for council leader.

Eden Council leader answered questions from local business owners yesterday morning at the latest Inspiring Eden Business Breakfast Meeting.

Cumbria Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Eden District Council, have run a series of business breakfast meetings.

The focus of yesterdays meeting held at North Lakes hotel was on green/low carbon support.

Guest speakers at the business breakfast were:

David Prentice & Philip Wanless from The CBEN Partnership who spoke about energy advice for businesses and Eden Council Greening Eden Businesses initiative.

Jonny Sadler, Strategic Decarbonisation Manager with Electricity NW spoke about the support and funding on offer from Electricity NW.

During a question and answer session delegates from the local business community put questions to the guest speakers and the leader of Eden Council.

In replying to a suggestion raised by one of the delegates that the Councils energy saving grants should be able to recoup a percentage of the savings from businesses to make the fund self fulfilling or provide cheap loans to help others to upgrade or retrofit properties.

Cllr Taylor responded saying “the climate emergency is the thread running through all decisions finance was not the paramount decision.”

In answer to a question from another delegate who enquired as to what the new Westmorland and Furness council will fund,

Cllr Taylor said “nothing will change from day one other than the logo. Eden will still exist as an area.”

Other questions around local energy generation opportunities revealed that that any generation project over 1mw was concerning to Electricity North West as the local grid is already overwhelmed. It was as added that any potentially required grid connection for large generation projects locally will face up to 10 years before the grid had capacity to carry such connections.

Speaking after the meeting one of the delegates said “CBEN were good and informative and the speaker from electricity North West was interesting.”
