Yellow Weather Warning for Penrith as blizzards forecast for parts of Cumbria.
Cumbria is bracing for “blizzard conditions” with up to 40cm of snow expected to fall in parts of the Cumbria on Thursday.
Snow storms are expected to hit large swathes of central and northern England on Thursday, forecasters warned.
The Met Office has issued an amber warning for “strong winds bringing blizzard conditions” and up to 40cm of snow for areas to the east of Penrith across the Pennines that is likely to impact the A66.
The Met office has also issued a yellow weather warnings for snow covering much of the UK over Thursday Friday including Penrith.
The warning will remain in place for 21 hours from 3pm on Thursday with forecast “significant disruption” to transport, power lines and phone network coverage likely across Cumbria and the UK.
Temperatures for Penrith are expected to remain below zero with overnight temperatures of -4 climbing only slightly through Thursday to -2
