Two Penrith Men Charged Following Serious Assaults in the Town

Two men have been charged with offences following serious assaults in Penrith in recent weeks.

Nigel Burton, 38, of Folly Lane in Penrith was arrested following an incident at an address in Castlegate in Penrith on the evening of 11 December.

Burton was arrested following the incident, which left the victim with cuts, bruising and a broken finger. He has been charged with burglary with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and attempted grievous bodily harm with intent.

Burton was remanded and will next appear at Carlisle Crown Court on 11 January 2024.


Reece Troy, 19, of Eamont Mews, Penrith was arrested following separate incidents in Penrith.

On 1 October a man was assaulted outside The Pinny pub in Penrith. A man suffered cuts and bruising to his head and face in the incident.

On 24 November a man was assaulted at the rear of the Devonshire Arcade in Penrith. The victim of the assault suffered a fractured eye socket, cuts and bruises.

Cumbria Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses regarding this incident and are encouraging anyone with information to report online at www.cumbria.police.uk/reportit quoting incident number 220 of 24 November 2023. You can also call 101.

Reece Troy has been charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm assaults. He was remanded to appear at Carlisle Crown Court on 12 January 2024.

Cumbria Police have said that the offences committed by the two men are not connected.

Detective Sergeant James Aiston said: “Allegations of violent attacks such as these are treated extremely seriously and investigated thoroughly.

“We have brought charges in these cases, however I would encourage anyone with information about these offences to come forward.

“We will continue to work hard to keep Penrith and the rest of the county a safe place for all but we need the public’s helps and support to do so.”
