Two men arrested on suspicion of various theft offences including shoplifting in Pooley Bridge

Officers from Eden’s Response Policing Team have arrested two men on suspicion of a number of high theft offences in Pooley Bridge.

Officers were called on Saturday 24 May following reports of a man suspected of shoplifting in Pooley Bridge earlier that day, who had returned to the premises and was abusing staff.

Officers stopped a man in his 50s in the area and carried out a search. He was arrested on suspicion of theft, attempted theft and a Section 4 Public Order offence.

Further enquiries by offices identified the man as being linked to a previous shed burglary, along with a second man.

The second man, aged also in his 50s was located and detained by officers on 25 May following a search of his vehicle. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary, shoplifting and theft.

Inspector Mo Bibby, Eden NPT said: “Our response teams here at Eden are determined to act swiftly and robustly against those who target local businesses and residents in Eden.”

Steven Skinner, aged 56, of no fixed abode has been charged with five counts of theft from a shop, theft of a bicycle, an offence of theft by finding and using threatening language in a public place.

Christopher Marshall, aged 59, of High View North, North Tyneside has been charged with four counts of theft from a shop, theft of a bicycle and an offence of theft by finding.

Both appeared before South Cumbria Magistrates Court today (Monday 26th May)
