Seven More Complaints Made Against Councillors in First Two Months of 2026

Councillors will receive an update next week at a meeting of Westmorland and Furness Council standards and governance committee on the number of complaints about councillors under investigation.

The report by the councils legal and monitoring officer will inform councillors that alongside code of conduct complaints made in 2025 still under investigation a further seven complaints against a Westmorland and Furness Councillor and town and parish councillors have been received by the monitoring officer since the new year.

Three complains have been made against town councillors by members of the public and a complaint lodged in January against a Westmorland and Furness Councillors.

Complaints made last year against serving Westmorland and Furness Councillors are also still under investigation include Four of the complaints submitted by other councillors, One by a members of the public and Three by Westmorland and Furness council staff against councillors made last August.

Investigations are handled by the council’s monitoring officer in consultation with an independent person appointed by the council with outcomes yet to be determined in the majority of cases that could be put before a conduct panel made up of Westmorland and Furness councillors .
