Youngsters in Penrith are being given a helping hand to stay safe on their bikes as the evenings get darker, with members of the Eden Neighbourhood Policing Team handing out bike lights during patrols around the town.
The team has been engaging with young people and proactively providing bike lights to those found riding pedal bikes without lights, helping to make them more visible to other road users.
The initiative follows on from a bike marking event held at Penrith Skate Park earlier on.
The bike lights have been funded by the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC) as part of efforts to help keep young people safe while they are out and about on their bikes.
Members of the neighbourhood policing team have also been providing road safety education to children, speaking with them about the importance of being visible and taking care when cycling.
With the nights now drawing in, the team is encouraging young cyclists to make sure their bikes are properly equipped with working lights and to take extra care when out on the roads.
