Drivers have been warned that their vehicles could be seized if anti-social behaviour at a Penrith car wash continues.
Eden police said the issue had been brought to officers’ attention following a recent StreetSafe survey, with reports of vehicle-related anti-social behaviour at the car wash on Haweswater Road.
Officers said the reported behaviour included revving engines, repeatedly sounding horns, loud music and shouting.
Police warned that the behaviour could have an adverse impact on local residents.
“Although it may not look like it, there’s housing estates nearby who hear all this noise,” officers said.
CCTV is also operating in the area and police said it could be used to identify those responsible for causing a nuisance.
Depending on the level of anti-social behaviour, officers said a warning letter may be issued in the first instance.
However, if the behaviour continues, police said vehicles could be uplifted under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act.
Section 59 provides police with powers to deal with vehicles being used in a manner that amounts to careless or inconsiderate driving and is causing, or is likely to cause, alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public.
Police have warned those using the car wash to consider the impact of their behaviour on nearby residents and said further action will be taken if the reported problems continue.
