Police are warning drivers not to contravene no entry signs on Drovers lane to get around closed section of Scotland road for gas mains repairs after receiving numerous reports of vehicles contravening the no entry signs onto Drovers Lane.
Vehicles have been reported to police travelling south along Drovers lane through the one way section instead of using signed diversion routes around Penrith.
The A6 was closed on Monday due to a gas leak requiring emergency work to be carried out to locate the leak by Norther Gas Network.
The closure has since been extended through until at least Wednesday 18th December with works extended from the initial location on Scotland Road.
Mark Lawson, Emergency Officer at Northern Gas Networks, said: “Initially temporary traffic lights were used, but as our teams now need access to both sides of Scotland Road, a road closure has been put in place with a clearly signposted diversion.
“Safety is our priority, and we’re working as quickly as possible to complete this work. We apologise for any temporary inconvenience this may cause.”
The gas supplies to homes and businesses in the area haven’t been affected.
