Police Issue Warnings after a spiking incident in Penrith

Following reports of spiking incident in Penrith, Cumbria Police have this weekend visited licensed premises in the area to hand out posters warning the dangers of spiking including Ask for Angela posters. Reusable bottle caps, spiking test kits and drugs wiping kits for licensed premises to deter drug use.

A spokes person for Eden Neighbourhood Policing team said “Spiking is a crime that Eden NPT take seriously and we will arrest and aim to prosecute any persons we believe to be involved in spiking.”

Eden NPT are working closely with the forces CID to detect and prevent spiking crimes in the area.

Spiking can make someone who is victim to the crime seriously ill.

The signs you should look out for in yourself or someone you are with include:

• confusion and disorientation

• nausea and vomiting

• hallucinations and paranoia

• poor co-ordination and vision

• an inability to communicate clearly

• memory loss and blackouts

If you feel like you have been spiked, call 999 immediately and ask for police.
