Police Arrest Two Males on a Shoplifting Spree in Penrith

Police in Penrith on this afternoon (Thursday 3rd October) responded to reports from shops in Penrith using the direct shop watch radios of numerous ongoing shopliftings incidents in shops in Penrith by a small group.

As multiple incidents started to be reported via the Penrith shop watch radio link, Cumbria Police dispatched officers aided by live radio reports direct from the local shops.

Many town centre shops in Penrith have access to a shop watch radio and can communicate directly with the local police over incidents allowing real-time information to be provided to ongoing incidents to officers.

Police used the information provided via the local shops to arrest to Two young males for theft and one for being in possession of an illegally controlled drug.

Police have said that Investigations into today’s multiple incidents are ongoing.
