Counting has concluded and the results for the Penrith South Ward, Westmorland and Furness Council By Election have declared.
The by election has seen four candidates battling for the vacant seat Penrith South Ward seat over the last month. The votes have been counted and confirmed and Westmorland and Furness Council returning officer has announced the by election winner with 749 as Barbara Jayson the Liberal Democrat candidate with a 161 majority gaining 43.16% of the votes cast.
A total of 1,739 votes have been cast by voters in the Penrith South Ward a turnout of 23.51% with one rejected ballot paper.
1,112 votes were cast in person at the polling station on Thursday with 627 postal votes cast with 4 ballot papers rejected.

Cllr Barbara Jayson will serve as the new Penrith south councillor on Westmorland and Furness Council for just over a year until the May 2027 full council elections when all council seats will once again be up for election.
