Penrith Schools' Music Association Carol Festivals 2023.

With the advent calendar’s ready for the 1st of December to start the Christmas countdown what could be better to get you into the Christmas spirit than a Christmas carol concert. Like the remarkable Penrith Schools Carol Concert that is back for 2023 at St Andrew’s Church, Penrith on Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 December at 7pm.

This year nine schools ranging from village primary schools through to Ulllswater Community College and Queen Elizabeth Grammar school will once again come together under the guidance and baton of the Penrith Schools Music Association lead teacher Lynsey Wrightson (Director of Music, Hunter Hall School) ably assisted by Sarah Richardson from St Catherine’s.

Over two nights, the choirs and congregations will collectively celebrate the coming of Christmas with nearly 30 hymns and carols – from rousing crowd-pleasers like ‘Once in Royal’ and ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’ to a piece composed by highly-respected local musician, Jilly Jarman, these concerts are a wonderful way to usher in the Christmas spirit and support local schools.

Lynsey Wrightson commented: “This is now the second generation of local children who are taking part in these school’s concerts. It’s a real privilege to work with them and witness just what wonderful performances they put on. It’s such a busy time of year and for so many schools to make this extra-curricular effort every year demonstrates just how much enjoyment the students get out of the concerts.”

Tickets are available online via https://goto.penrith.town/Penrith-Schools-Music-Association-Carol-Festivals-2023 at a cost of £5 for adults and £3 for children.

All the proceeds from ticket sales go back into the participating schools, allowing them to help fund music in schools and inspire the next generation of budding musicians.

A food bank collection point will also be open to welcome donations at each concert on the 4th and 5th of December.
