Met Office issues yellow thunderstorm warning for Cumbria. The Met Office has issued a yellow thunderstorm warning across Cumbria for today Saturday 15th July.

The met office has issued a yellow warning, stating there will be a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water or hail and that could lead to longer journeys by car and bus. Delays to train services are possible and damage to buildings and structures from lightning strikes may occur.

Rainfall is forecast of around 15-20mm in an hour, but some could see 30mm fall. 

Through the evening, the heaviest showers and thunderstorms will eases from most areas, but could linger in some parts of Cumbria.

Motorists should avoid travelling until the weather clears, choose main roads, used dipped headlights and grip the steering wheel firmly if gusts of wind unsettle your vehicle.
