Improvements to Penrith Bus Services with Government Funding

A number of improvements and new bus services are to be launched in March by Stagecoach providing more public transport links to and from Penrith.

The 563 Penrith to Appleby Bus service is being extended to include Kirkby Stephen and Kendal. This service will offer new Monday to Friday links from Kirkby Stephen and Warcop to both Kendal and Penrith.

The 563 revised timetable will come into effect from Monday 25 March 2024.

The 104 Penrith - Carlisle service will be restored to running every half hour in the daytime from the current hourly timetable from Saturday 23 March 2024.

X4/X5 buses will increase in frequency between Penrith and Keswick, with passengers able to catch a bus every 30 minutes.

Funding for the services has been awarded to Stagecoach by Westmorland & Furness Council using the Bus Service Improvement Plan grant received from the Government.

A new 509 service will also launch at weekends and bank holidays, providing a bus service from Penrith to Keswick via Clifton, Hackthorpe, Lowther Castle, Askham, Tirril and Pooley Bridge. The new 509 service starts on Saturday the 23rd March 2023.

The new bus timetables will be running until November 2024 and services will allow passengers to take advantage of the £2 single fare scheme on these routes.
