Former Penrith MP Selected as Conservatives Candidate for Epping Forest

Former Penrith and the Border Conservative MP Neil Hudson has been selected as Epping Forest Conservative General Election candidate.

Hudson had been MP for Penrith and the Border since 2019 until last Thursday when Parliament was dissolved, and boundary changes abolished the Penrith and The Border constituency.

The Epping Forest constituency MP had until last Thursday been considered a safe Conservative seat with the former MP deputy speaker of the House of Commons Dame Eleanor Laing who had held the seat since 1997.

She had recently announced her intention to step down saying “I’ve had the great honour of being the MP for #EppingForest for 27 years. I love this job, but it’s time for me to move aside and give others the opportunities that I’ve been fortunate to have.”

Following the selection of Neil Hudson this evening she said “It has been an honour to serve as your MP since 1997.”

“EppingForest is a wonderful place to live, work, and visit, and I wish all of you, including my successor DrNeilHudson, very best wishes
