Penrith South Westmorland and Furness Cllr Virginia Taylor has stepped as a member of the Westmorland and Furness Council Cabinet member for Sustainable Communities and Localities.
CouncillorvTaltor has held the cabinet post since the new council replaced Eden District council that she was leader of between 2019 and 2023.
Councillor Taylor will continue to be the Westmorland and Furness councillor for Penrith South ward on the council with the next election scheduled for May 2027 for Westmorland and Furness Council.
Cllr Taylor has made the decision to resign from the council leadership cabinet for health reasons. Commenting on her decision Cllr Jonathan Brook, Leader of Westmorland and Furness Council said - "It is essential that Virginia puts her health first but I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Virginia for her tireless service and contribution, she has had an unswerving focus on a number of areas close to her heart not least Culture, Libraries, Communities and Planning. I want to thank her for her contribution as a cabinet member and look forward to continue working with her as a local member."
Cllr Taylor’s cabinet role will in the interim be split between Cllr Chaffey who cover Culture and Community and Cllr Thornton who will cover Planning alongside their other cabinet portfolios.
