Firefighters from five fire stations were in attendance at a blaze at a derelict Penrith building in the early hours of Sunday morning (27th August).

At approximately 1am, Fire engines including an aerial ladder platform, were mobilised to a derelict building on fire on Salkeld Road, North of Penrith with appliances from Penrith, Carlisle, Lazonby and Shap in attendance at the fire. Fire crews on arrival discovered a well-developed fire, which had spread to the roof of the building.

The fire was brought under control using main jets, hosereels, ladders, and by utilising an aerial ladder platform main jet despatched from Carlisle East station to tackle the fire from above.

Fire crews remained on the scene for over four hours until the fire was brought under control and extinguished.
