Cumbria Police are warning motorists in the Penrith and Eden area not to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs following a spate of arrests in the Eden area in the last week.
During the past five days, officers have made ten arrests after drivers were deemed unfit to drive due to being under the influence of drugs.
Police also made a further two arrests for drivers being above the alcohol limit.
The majority of the individuals arrested over the last 5 days for the offences live in the local area.
A Cumbria Police spokesperson said “There is an increased roads policing presence across the Eden and South Lakes area and officers will continue to hold those who are putting other people in danger to account.”
“Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is one of the 'Fatal Four' - which are the four main behaviours which cause death or serious injury on the road network alongside speeding, using a mobile phone at the wheel and not wearing a seatbelt.”
Officers are urging anyone who consumes alcohol or drugs to not get behind a wheel and put lives at risk.
