Cumbria Police officers are continuing to target dangerous driving as part of the month-long Operation Spotlight. Over the weekend, officers made more arrests on the counties roads.
Including a 30-year-old who sped off from officers at 130mph before crashing his vehicle and subsequently failed a roadside drug test. The man was arrested for driving offences including drug driving, dangerous driving, disqualified driving and aggravated vehicle taking.
Other arrests included a HGV driver spotted driving whilst on the phone who subsequently tested positive for cocaine, a man stopped at in his car who failed a roadside drug test for cannabis and a man arrested for drink-driving after overturning his vehicle.
A 37-year-old woman from Newcastle – found by officers at the wheel of a car facing the wrong direction by the side of the A66, was arrested for drink-driving after blowing more than double the drink-drive limit. She was subsequently charged with failing to provide a specimen for analysis and disqualified driving. She will attend Magistrates Court on 12 August 2025.
