Brilliant’ first month for The Pinny as pub re-opens in Penrith — aiming to be town’s number one live music venue

The owners of a re-opened Penrith pub have said they are “hugely excited” for the future after a “brilliant” first four weeks of business.

The Pinny, on Burrowgate, officially re-opened on Wednesday, 30 July, under the management of Daniel Bowerbank and Alicia Gabryszak. The pair have also successfully managed The Albion, a popular pub in Clayton-le-Moors, Accrington, since 2021.

Since taking on The Pinny, Daniel and Alicia have carried out a full makeover, including a deep clean “from cellar to toilets”, and have revamped the entertainment programme with the aim of making it Penrith’s go-to live music venue.

“When The Pinny was under threat of closure because no one else wanted to take it on, we knew we had to step in,” they explained.
“We don’t like seeing pubs close—too many are disappearing every day. We looked at its reputation and saw a challenge, but also a huge opportunity. We want The Pinny to become Penrith’s number one live music venue and a true community pub at the heart of the town.”

From the beginning of September, the pub will host a full schedule of live music, with performances on Friday nights, Saturday afternoons and evenings, and Sunday afternoons. Community events, charity fundraisers, and family days are also planned. The pub has also confirmed it is dog-friendly, as long as dogs are kept on a lead.

Daniel said the response since reopening has been “brilliant”.
“We’ve had so many compliments – about the pub’s cleanliness, the friendliness of our team, the fun atmosphere, and just the way we are as people. It means the world to us. As a family business, feedback is everything. Whether it’s positive, negative, or constructive, we take it all on board and make changes if we think it will benefit the pub and community.”

He added: “We’re hugely excited for the future. In just four weeks we’ve already seen such a positive transformation – not only for the pub but for the wider community. We’d love people to continue supporting us and our live music events. Supporting pubs and live music venues is so important. It’s always the same: use them, or lose them.”
