All traffic being temporarily held and queueing traffic due to multi-vehicle accident on M6 Northbound between J39 B6261 (Shap) and J40 A66 (Penrith).

The M6 northbound is currently closed between junctions 39 (Shap) and 40 (Penrith) following a multi-vehicle collision.

The incident occurred at around 4.45pm today (8 Jan).

The section of the motorway is likely to remain closed for some time following the incident, which involves more than a dozen vehicles.

Drivers are urged to avoid and use diversionary routes.
