Yellow weather warning for Thunderstorm issued for Today by Met Office

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms and possible disruption across Cumbria with the warning in place through until 9pm this evening.

Forecasters issued the yellow weather warning for the risk of heavy showers and thunderstorms this afternoon bringing possible travel disruption.

The Met Office said: "There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus."

Forecasters have also warned of possible damage to buildings and structures from lightning strikes, as well as some short-term loss of power along with some flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible, leading to some damage to buildings or structures.

Cumbria Police have also said “Motorists are advised to take care on the county’s roads and allow extra time for any journey.”

“If you come across flooded roads, please do not attempt to drive through.”
