Yellow Weather Warning for Frequent Lightning extended to Cumbria

The Met office has extended a Yellow Weather Warning into Cumbria now for heavy thunderstorms later on Sunday and most of Monday with heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to move north across England, into parts of Wales and later into Scotland. 

The extent of these thunderstorms remains very uncertain and whilst many places will miss them, some places may see 30 to 40 mm of rain fall in less than an hour and perhaps over 60-80 mm in one or two places with Frequent lightning strikes and hail will be additional hazards.

The Met Office say there is a "small chance of flooding and disruption" in some areas as a result.

The yellow warning is urging people to "be aware", external came into force at 04:00am, covering large parts of southern England, the Midlands and the North East has now been extended to cover Cumbria and parts of Scotland with the warning extended through until late Monday night.
