Weekend Work Underway to Help Gas Works Get Back On Schedule

Northern Gas Networks contractors are today excavating KingStreet with work underway over the weekend as part of efforts to get the works back on track with the original schedule of the works.

A contractor working for Norther Gas Networks confirmed that the weekend work now underway was hoped to help speed up the completion of the third and final phase of the town centre gas works.

Phase one and two both faced delays to the completion with the final section from The Musgrave Monument to Crown Square originally scheduled to start on the 5th of February with an original completion date of the 8th of March.

The road closure for the final stage along KingStreet has now been extended by Westmorland and Furness Council with a street closure permit now in place until the 15th of March.

Local businesses have welcomed the reopening of Devonshire Street allowing vehicles to travel through the town centre once again for the first time since the 3rd of January.

Free Carpark in the council owned pay and display carparks in Penrith will continue to be Free after 3pm until the second week of March paid for by Penrith BiD.

Penrith will see further gas works get underway as national gas transmission with works to divert two existing high pressure gas transmission pipelines under the a66 East of Penrith planned to get underway.
