Westmorland and Furness council has confirmed that two by-election will take place on Thursday 27th November for the Penrith South and Penrith West wards of Penrith Town Council if the seats are contested.
The elections have been called after the Returning Officer received valid requests with 10 local electors in each ward signing petitions to hold the elections to fill the two vacancies on Penrith Town Council by holding an election following the resent resignations of councillors.
The elections in each ward will take place if more than one candidate is nominated to stand in each ward with an estimated cost of approximately £10,000 to hold the by elections for the town council if contested.
Voters in the Penrith South, and Penrith West wards of Penrith Town Council will go to the polls between the hours of 7am and 10pm on Thursday 27 November 2025.
The candidates that are elected in the by-election will serve a term of just over a year until May 2027 when all town council seats will be up for election subject to any changes in the current governance review taking place of the town council.

A Notice of Election will be published by the Westmorland and Furness Council returning officer for both elections no later than Thursday 23rd October.
A list of candidates will be published no later than Monday 3 November.
Eligible residents who are not registered to vote must do so by midnight on Tuesday 11 November 2025 https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
Voters who wish to vote by post, or want to cancel or amend their postal vote, must apply to do so by 5pm on Wednesday 12 November 2025.
Voters who wish to vote by proxy must apply to do so by 5pm on Wednesday 19 November 2025.
