Two Penrith Businesses Flying the Flag for Penrith at The Cumbria Tourism Awards

Cranstons have been named as a finalist in the Makers and Producers Award at this year’s Cumbria Tourism Awards, alongside fellow Penrith business The Toffee Shop, and Pennington’s Spirits, Kendal.

The award recognises businesses that make an outstanding contribution to Cumbria’s visitor economy through the products they create and the experiences they offer, and we’re incredibly proud to be recognised.

Together, Cranstons and The Toffee Shop have been serving customers for more than 220 years. The Toffee Shop has been delighting visitors with its famous handmade toffee since 1910, while we’ve been proudly championing quality meat and local food since 1914, with generations of locals and visitors returning for our signature Cumberland Sausage.

Jane Silburn, Business Development Director at Cranstons, said:

“It’s a real honour to be recognised alongside another business with such a rich history and reputation. The Toffee Shop is an iconic part of Penrith, and we couldn’t be happier to be sharing this achievement with them.

“People travel from all over the country to visit Cumbria, and businesses like ours play a part in making those visits memorable. Whether it’s taking home a box of handmade toffee or filling the car with great local food, we’re proud to showcase the very best of what Cumbria has to offer.

“Awards like these remind us that we’re not just an individual business – we’re part of a wider community that helps make Penrith and Cumbria such special places to visit.”

Kathryn Graves, Director at The Toffee Shop said:

“As a small artisan business, we put our heart into making the very best fudge and toffee, so everyone at Team Toffee was thrilled to learn we’d reached the finals. It’s a real privilege to stand alongside another outstanding Penrith-based business and be recognised in this way. We wish all the finalists the very best of luck on the night and congratulate everyone who has made it this far.”

The Makers and Producers Award celebrates businesses that champion local products, craftsmanship and quality, helping strengthen Cumbria’s reputation as one of the UK’s leading food and drink destinations.

The winners of the Cumbria Tourism Awards will be announced at a celebration evening taking place tonight (Wednesday 8th July) at the Castle Green Hotel in Kendal.

The Cumbria Tourism Awards celebrate and recognise exceptional quality across our wide range of tourism businesses which drive a visitor economy worth £4.6 billion and support 43,500 full time jobs – 28% of Cumbria’s total employment.

Winners for many of the categories from the Cumbria Tourism Awards in 2026 will go on to represent the county at the Visit England Awards for Excellence in 2027.  (Wedding Venue of the Year and the Makers and Producers Award are run at a Cumbria level only.  The overall winner of the two Taste of Cumbria Award categories will also progress to the national competition.)

Good Luck to Cranstons and The Toffee Shop from the Penrith.Town team
