Train services to and from Penrith station ranked third worst in the country

Train services operated by Avanti WestCoast and TransPennine Express arriving and departing Penrith train station have been ranked among the worst in the country compared to all 2,639 stations in the UK, Penrith was ranked the 2,637th for journey performance over the past 12 weeks.

Throughout the last three months, almost all train services arriving and departing from Penrith station were logged as running 10 minutes or more later than timetabled arrival and departure times.

Services this month have continued to see most services for Penrith delayed, on Monday 2nd June 68 services to and from Penrith were delayed by an average of over 10 minutes, Tuesday 3rd June 70 services to and from Penrith faced delays of more than 10 minutes.

A spokesperson for Avanti West Coast, who operate services to and from Penrith and run Penrith station said: “It is vital that we all work together, as an industry and with our stakeholders, to ensure that we are continuing to improve on delivering the train service that our regions and communities deserve.”

Network rail who operates the UK rail network said “We work hard alongside train operators to run a punctual and reliable train service for passengers.”

“Unfortunately, there are times when things do not go to plan and regrettably passengers experience delays. When delays do occur, passengers are able to claim compensation from the train operator they brought their tickets from.”

“Separately, train operators are compensated for the long-term impact of disruption that is not their fault.”

From the 31st December rail passengers will face no trains arriving or departing Penrith station for two weeks as Network Rail closes the WestCoast mainline for major engineering works including the replacement of the bridge across the M6 at Clifton.
