Town Council Vote Yes to Town Wide 20MPH Zone

At a meeting of Penrith Town Councils planning committee held on Monday afternoon.

Members of the planning committee discussed the council’s position on supporting proposals put forward by the community for 20mph zones.

Representatives from Castletown Community Group spoke on its call for a 20mph zone for Castletown.

Former town councillor Jonathan Davies also spoke in the town councils already approved position for a town wide 20mph zone and the call by Evolve Penrith members for a single town wide 20mph zone to “reduce the rat runs and the current jigsaw to speed limits”

Cllr Knaggs proposed that the town council support the town wide 20mph zone with 5 councillors voting Yes one Councillor voting No and one abstention.

The town council will submit the call to the town wide 20mph zone as part of the review by Westmorland and Furness Council.

Additional separate smaller 20mph speed limits were also discussed and will be submitted to Westmorland and Furness including a Castletown wide 20mph zone.
