Town Council to Select New Town Mayor and Deputy Town Mayor

Penrith Town Council will hold its annual town council meeting on Monday (20th May), during the meeting Penrith Town councillors will elect a chair and vice chair of the council who will also be the Town Mayor and Deputy Town Mayor.

Councillor Doug Lawson is the current Chair of Penrith Town Council and Mayor of Penrith holding the post since the 15th of May 2023.

The Mayor is classed as the first citizen of Penrith in what is a civic ceremonial role that the Mayor meets with groups and organisations in the town to promote civic pride and attends official engagements representing the town and council.

Since 2015 when the town council was created four individuals have held the role of Town Mayor as the first citizen Penrith.

Councillors will select the next Town Mayor and Deputy Mayor from among themselves during Monday evening’s meeting. 

The meeting will also be the first meeting for the newly elected town councillor for Penrith West, Cllr Davies who was elected on May 2nd to fill the vacant seat following the resignation of the former Penrith West councillor in January.

Monday’s meeting will also agree the membership of the councils three committees and representatives on outside bodies along with agreeing meeting dates for the next twelve months for the council.
