Counting in the Penrith Town Council By Election that has seen three candidates battling for the vacant seat Penrith South Ward seat has concluded and the Westmorland and Furness Council deputy returning officer Karen Thompson has announced the by election winner with 225 votes as Alex Deacon the Liberal Democrat candidate.
A total of 408 votes have been cast by voters in the Penrith South Ward a turnout of 20.96% with one rejected ballot paper.
255 votes were cast in person at the polling station on Thursday with 153 postal votes cast.
The votes received by each candidates in the by election are:
DEACON, Alex - Liberal Democrats 225
HOUSTON, Mike - Reform UK 140
LAWSON, Kimberley Jane - The Green Party 42
Cllr Deacon will serve as a town councillor for just over a year until the May 2027 full town council elections when all 15 town council seats will once again be up for election.
