Penrith Town Council has completed the installation of two new benches near St Andrews Church in Penrith close to Penrith Library along part of the National Cycle route that passes through Penrith.
The new benches were approved by the Council's Finance Committee meeting in September, following a request from Stainton resident Mr. Philip Lowe to the town council.
Mr. Lowe suggested installing a bench on the footpath next to St Andrews Church, near the entrance to Penrith Library, to provide a convenient resting spot for residents and visitors alike. Mr Lowe had told the town council he felt there was little provision for the public to rest in the town centre.
The councils Finance Committee decided to not only approved the request but also decided to go a step further by installing two benches to better meet the community’s needs.
Councillor Charlie Shepherd, Chair of Penrith Town Council’s Finance Committee said:
“I am proud that the Council has been able to support Mr. Lowe’s request and take it even further by installing two new benches at St Andrews.
“Little projects like this may seem small, but they make a big difference in people’s daily lives. These benches will offer a place for rest, reflection, and connection, right in the heart of our community.”
