As part of the preparation for A66 upgrading to dual carriageway the A66 between M6 junction 40 and Temple Sowerby will be closed overnight from midnight until 6am with the nightly closures starting tonight (Monday 20th July), Tuesday 21st July and Wednesday 22nd July.
The closures are to allow National Highways to install narrow lanes on the A66 between M6 junction 40 and Temple Sowerby, near Center Parcs.
The narrow lanes also mean a Wide load ban will come into force today (Monday 20th July) until the winter 2030/31, meaning wide loads over 2.9m cannot use the A66 between M6 junction 40 and Temple Sowerby in either direction for the next four or five years until the A66 upgrade is completed.
Diversions for wide loads are via the A69 or M62.
If drivers with wide loads miss the diversion and restrictions signs, holding areas along the route will redirect drivers.
National Highways said “We're putting up over 100 black and yellow signs at ports, airports and interchanges across northern England to direct wide loads”.
The full overnight closures between the 20th – 22nd July of the A66 is in both directions between Kemplay roundabout and Temple Sowerby
With the road closed overnight (midnight – 6am), for the three nights with drivers diverted via signed strategic diversion route along the same route used for previous closures.
