The Original Factory Shop Opening New Store in Penrith

The Original Factory Shop is stepping up its expansion plans with the opening of a new store in Penrith in September.

The Lancashire based discount store plans to open 16 new sites including the new Penrith store over the next three months, expanding its high street presence around the UK. Some of the new stores set to open will take over former sites occupied by M&Co, that collapsed into administration at the end of last year including the former Penrith M&Co that was located in Penrith New Squares.

On the opening of the company plans to open 16 news store the managing director of The Original Factory Shop Phil Briggs said “Our investment in new store openings is about making sure we have the right stores in the right place. We’re identifying catchments where The Original Factory Shop is not represented and that includes a focus on high streets in major towns.”

The Original Factory Shop is a discount department store chain that was established in 1969 as part of Peter Black's retail network. Initially it sold soap manufactured by one of Black's factories. 

The chain has currently has three stores in Cumbria in Wigton, Egremont and Ulverston.

The new stores planned for Penrith is set to open its doors in the former M&Co store in Penrith New Squares on the 21st September.
