Thacka Beck Turns Orange Sparking Environmental Concerns

Heavy rain overnight has seen the pond at Thacka Beck nature reserve and the beck flowing through Penrith into the river Eamont turn an orangey colour.

The environment agency are understood to be investigating reports that possible material from nearby developments may have washed into the beck overnight leading to the pollution that has caused the discolouration to occur in the beck.

Local residents had taken to social media today after noticing the water flowing in the beck had turned an orangey brown colour, concerned at the pollution and impact on wildlife it may have some reported the pollution incident to the Environment Agency for investigation.

The Environment Agency have said that the reports made by members of the public about Thacka Beck have been passed to the local team to investigate.
