Teenager Living Rough in Penrith Convicted After Assaulting Tim Hortons Staff Member

On Tuesday 14th October, police received a report of a man urinating outside of Tim Hortons in Penrith, who became aggressive when challenged by staff and then assaulted one staff member several times.

The suspect, Declan Murphy, aged 19, from Blackpool who had been living rough in a tent in Penrith was arrested and in police custody within hours of the incident.

He was charged and appeared before Carlisle Magistrates Court the following morning (15th October) where he pleaded guilty to charges of Common Assault and Outraging Public Decency. 

The teenager will be sentenced at Carlisle Magistrates Court on 13th November 2025. 

 Sgt Bennet, Eden NPT, said: “ This case demonstrates how seriously we take reports of violence — no one should be assaulted at work, and the swift justice here reflects that.”
