Teen Mountain Biker Rescued After Crash in Coombs Woods

Penrith Mountain Rescue Team were called out on Wednesday (20th August) after a 14-year-old mountain biker was injured in Coombs Woods, Armathwaite.

The North West Ambulance Service alerted the Penrith Mountain Rescue Team  at 1.35pm to reports of a crash in steep woodland. The teenager had sustained a suspected broken hip and their assistants was required to help in transporting the teenager out of the woodland.

The Great North Air Ambulance, flying in from Langwathby, was first on scene and provided initial treatment and pain relief. Penrith Mountain Rescue members then assisted in moving the casualty from the woodland, using a vacuum mattress for immobilisation before carrying him by stretcher back to the roadside.

The patient was then transferred to a waiting ambulance for onward travel to hospital.

Thirteen team members were involved in the rescue, which lasted around two and a half hours.
