A cleanup operation is underway in Eamont Bridge after a lorry shed part of its load of logs while travelling south along the A6 on Saturday morning.
The Dent Logistics lorry was transporting logs to the AW Jenkinson sawmill at Clifton when part of its load became dislodged, spilling onto both the carriageway and adjacent pavement.
Police attended the scene and the lorry, carrying an unstable remaining load, was escorted to the Clifton sawmill while recovery and cleanup work got underway.
The incident has added to traffic disruption already affecting the area due to ongoing roadworks on the A66 near Kemplay Bank. Motorists are currently experiencing significant delays, with traffic tailing back in both directions on the A6 and affecting sections of the A66 approach roads.
A pedestrian who was passing the scene shortly before the logs fell described the incident as a near miss.
"It's a miracle no one was hit by them. I had only been walking along that path a few minutes before," they said.
No injuries have been reported.
Drivers are being advised to allow extra time for journeys through Eamont Bridge and the Kemplay Bank area while the cleanup operation continues.
