Cumbria Police have issued an apology following an incident this afternoon on the A66 at on the Temple Sowerby bypass, where a police stinger device was deployed, accidentally taking out tyres of an innocent HGV.
The front tyres of the HGV that was travelling on the A66 were shredded by the stinger deployed device.
In response to the incident Cumbria Police said: “Apologies to the very understanding, innocent motorists that got caught up in our Stinger deployment this afternoon on the A66”.
“Thanks for your understanding and safe travels.”
The stinger device is typically used to stop fleeing suspect vehicles by deflating tyres, was deployed during a police operation but inadvertently impacted the single uninvolved heavy goods vehicle.
Police have not given details on the reason for the deployment this afternoon or the intended target vehicle on the A66.
