Volunteers are busy with last minute preparations with just over 36 hours until the gates open for the 129th Skelton Show on Saturday, (5th July 2025).
From its humble beginnings in the late 1800’s as a small village gathering, the show has grown into one of Cumbria’s premier agricultural events, attracting well over 8,000 visitors each year.
Renowned for its strong agricultural roots, the show features an impressive array of competitions with more than £16,500 in prize money and 130 trophies up for grabs. Exhibitors from across the region will compete on Saturday in classes for cattle, sheep, horses, hounds and dogs, as well as horticultural and industrial exhibits, all showcased in a large marquee and across the showfield.
The main ring promises thrilling entertainment throughout the day. The Inter-Hunt Challenge returns - a crowd favourite known for its fast-paced action - alongside the spellbinding Bubble Whisperer with his enormous, gravity-defying bubbles. Also headlining the ring is Scott Wilson, a former world and seven-time British Trials Bike Champion, performing jaw-dropping stunts with his mountain bike over custom-built obstacles. Expect high energy, daring leaps and plenty of loud audience participation! We will also have 3 mounted police on horseback to watch over us!
Elsewhere on the field, younger visitors will be kept entertained with children’s entertainers, a dog show and a visit from the ever-popular Biking Vikings from Northumberland. Live music from the Penrith Town Band will fill the air throughout the day, adding to the vibrant atmosphere. There is also a bar on the field with live music starting at 5pm.
One of the highlights in recent years has been the Taste@Skelton Food Hall, showcasing the very best of local food and drink, with cookery demonstrations and artisan producers offering something for every palate. The gift and craft tent and over 150 trade stands provide the perfect opportunity to browse unique gifts and rural crafts.
Vintage enthusiasts will enjoy the spectacle of a record number of 110 vintage vehicles, a nostalgic and much-loved feature of the show, which continues to grow in size and spectacle each year.
Please note that, as a rural venue WiFi is limited, so visitors are requested to purchase tickets online in advance and/or bring cash on the day.
