Seven Mile Tailback and Hour and Half Delays on M6 around Penrith

Over seven miles of traffic is facing delays of over one and a half hours currently on the M6 around Penrith due to a broken down coach south of J40 near Clifton closing one lane of the motorway along with the 40mph speed restrictions and lane closures already in place for the railway bridge and Lowther Bridge works on the M6.

Police and national highways are now on the scene but traffic is expected to continue to face delays until around 7:30 this evening.

The delays on the M6 have added to the normal Friday congestion around Penrith with the A66 back up for over 4 miles on approach to Junction 40 in both directions.

Traffic is queuing through town as drivers look for alternative routes to avoid the seven mile tailbacks on the M6 southbound.
