Scaffolding Causes Busy Town Centre Footpath to be Closed for Safety

A busy section of footpath in the centre of Penrith is to be closed until the end of November Westmorland and Furness Council have said.

Due to scaffolding been erected at a property located on the junction of Middlegate and Burrowgate in Penrith.

Westmorland and Furness Highways officers said they have carried out an inspection of the scaffolding erected at the corner of Middlegate and Burrowgate in Penrith last week that they have determined is causing an obstruction on the footway.

A spokesperson for Westmorland and Furness Councils highways team said “as a result of the inspection, a footway closure and alternative route will be implemented as there is not adequate room on the footway for the scaffolding and for the safe passage of pedestrians.”

The council's highways team have now issued a permit for the scaffolding and foot way closure that they have said will remain in force until the 29th November 2023.
